Why Are the First Years of Life So Crucial?<\/strong><\/h2>

The critical period hypothesis, proposed by Eric Lenneberg in 1967<\/a>, indicates that the early years of life are a key time for language acquisition. During this period, the brain’s neuroplasticity \u2013 its ability to form new neural connections \u2013 reaches its peak, allowing children to acquire language easily and naturally. As Stephen Krashen<\/a> notes, \u201cwe acquire language when we understand messages \u2013 both spoken and written.\u201d<\/p>
